I am going to share my experience with web development using WordPress.Org, WordPress.com, Wix.com, and Blogger.com. That’s not going to be a paragraph by paragraph but what salient features I liked about them randomly. I have used WordPress (both .org and .com versions), Wix, and Blogger by Google. I got a little HTML, CSS, and JS experience as well so it helped me in some aspects.
This current blog is in blogger CMS. It is very simple and intuitive. However, the themes are limited as well as the storage. It has around 15 GB of storage which is enough for a small to medium-sized business. But as your traffic grows as well as the web content, you need more storage and bandwidth.
Another thing is that it is a bit dated, for example in the sharing link there is still an option for Twitter and there is no link for LinkedIn. I know they are rivals but still, they are used by billions so there should be an option. The domain name for free service has blogspot in it but you can link your custom domain anyway.
Wix is new, sleek, and stylish. If you want a beautiful-looking website you can make it with Wix. They have SEO options as well. You can also do some email marketing with it. For example, you can tell people about your new blog post, etc.
On the other hand, one word to describe WordPress is Robust! WordPress has such a big 3rd party support in terms of plugins and themes. Although, it is not that flashy (you may disagree) in terms of themes. But it is great for customizing your theme. If you have a UI/UX/Designer in your team you can virtually make any envisioned website.
Another that I noticed is that in Blogger you can use custom HTML, CSS, and JS in the blog posts i.e., making small scripts for games and quizzes, but in WP you need to install plugins. You can do SEO on your web pages with the all-famous Yoast plugin. Contrarily on Blogger you have very limited options. The biggest turn-off factor on Blogger is that it has only one central HTML file. You don’t have separate pages for different blog posts (I may be wrong as I am learning web development).
Web development used to be very technical in the past but now with no-code solutions, anyone can make a good and professional website. If you are an entrepreneur I will encourage you to take a plunge, at least, you will gain a new skill.
